Skimlinks suggests adding a custom subdomain to route visitors to skimlinks.
The Skimlinks instructions say with your domain registrar add a cname record, and lists entries for a:
- name/record
- value/data
- TTL
I have a domain hosted with HostGator and registered with GoDaddy. After a frustrating amount of time it became clear the Skimlinks instructions were not only wrong – but literally backwards.
Here is what you do:
1. You are adding the cname in your HostGator web hosting cpanel – not your domain registrar GoDaddy.
2. In your HostGator cpanel click on the Advanced DNS Zone Editor
3. Under Add a Record, type in the following information:
Name: go.yourdomain.com.
TTL: 300
Type: CNAME
Address: redirect.skimlinks.com
Now test to see that go.yourdomain.com takes you to the redirect.skimlinks.com page. If so, you are done.
A 30 second setup. (Now that know what to do).
